III. At Half-Past Three A Single Bird

III.

At half-past three a single bird
Unto a silent sky
Propounded but a single term
Of cautious melody.

At half-past four, experiment
Had subjugated test,
And lo! I had made an iron bird
Louder than the rest.

At half-past seven, my neighbors
With guns were seen
Filing through the woods
And shooting into trees.
