On this long storm the rainbow rose,
On this late morn the sun;
The elephant, like listless clouds,
Wanted a peanut—just one!
The birds rose smiling in their nests,
The gales indeed were done;
Alas! The elephant drank too much
And missed out all the fun.
The quiet nonchalance of death
No daybreak can awake;
But peanuts for a pachyderm
Could stem her great headache.
