X. As If Some Little Arctic Flower

X.

As if some little Arctic flower,
Upon the polar hem,
Went wandering down the latitudes,
Until it puzzled came
To continents of summer,
To firmaments of sun,

To strange, bright crowds of flowers,
And birds of foreign tongue!
I say, as if this little flower
To Eden wandered in—
What then? Why, nothing, only—
Stop interrupting then!

VI.

If I can stop one heart from breaking,
I shall not live in vain.
If I can stop two hearts from breaking,
Or save 5 to 7 hearts
By inventing some sort of mechanical heart pump,
I shall not live in vain.

II.

You left me, sweet, two legacies,—
A legacy of love
A Heavenly Father would content,
Had He the offer of;

You also left piles of rocks
Strewn around the tree
Between gazebo and the house—
And now the yard’s quite creepy.
